Yet another awesomely bad hockey player commercial

I'll give Looch props. His delivery is a little wooden, but his facial expressions are awesome, and you can tell he's speaking memorised lines, not reading a teleprompter. So in carrying with the tradition of sharing with you awesomely bad (although in this case, bad meaning good) hockey player commercials, I give you:

Milan Lucic pimping TTC

Thanks to HubHockey for digging up this gem. If you actually go to the YouTube site, you can find out why the video game looks so ghetto, which is kind of brilliant, IMO.

Here's to hoping Marc Savard shows up next doing an advert for the Ed Hardy Home Collection!

Bruins @ Thrashers - picture time!

Before we get into the photos, I want to congratulate the Thrashers on finally being an AWESOME team. That was an intensely great game of hockey last night. It might not have seemed it because the crowd just wasn't there, but props to the fans who did show up. That might go down as one of my favourite hockey games of all time. I'm really pleased and pleasantly surprised to see the Thrash coming into their own finally, and see them playing the way I knew they could all along. That said, I'm still waiting for Kari to return until I really start paying attention to the games. Fucked up? Probably. Will Kari even stay on the team? Who knows. But you know how I roll and where my loyalties lie. But well played, Atlanta Thrashers. Very well played.

These are only the first round of photos I was able to dig up. There were more obviously, but I based these on either the Bruins doing something awesome, or the absolute HILARITY of the fans in the background. Considering it sounded and looked like there was only about 200 people in the building, and 100 of them were Bruins fans, these pictures are high-quality entertainment. I shall point out my LOLs. The good photos are from Reuters. The shitty ones are from AP. All rights reserved, blahblabhblah.

LOL: Looch stripped Bogo of the puck in his first day back on the job.

LOL: Is that a wookie in the crowd over Little's left shoulder
(our left, his right)? And/or Johny Candy's ghost???

LOL: There is very little in this world I love more than a fan
giving a hockey player the finger. And this guy goes all the
way with a double-salute. What is he, a disgruntled former
Ottawa fan? Is the nice older lady behind Z smiling at him?
Is that my Aunt Donna?!

LOL: The look of "this isn't happening, I didn't
see it, la la la they didn't score" on the guy over
Wheels' shoulder. Also, A Krejci goal celebration! WIN!

LOL: There are so many I don't know where to start. I love the lady
in the front row trying to use her Jedi powers (or Harry Potter
protection spells) to keep that puck outta the net. The other big LOL
here is that I was praying Bergie did not go into the shootout. I
picked Ryder, Krejci and Wheels. I was 2/3 right. And lookit that,
Bergie deked Pony right out of his net, AND his jock. That
goal was a thing of beauty. Shame Wheels pulled the same
move and whiffed on the open net.

LOL: The dismay of the three Atlana fans in the audience, and Tuukka with
his best QB pose EVAR (4th-and-2 what?). What's even funnier is that he
was stumbling at the time, and falling backwards, so mad props
to the photographer of this one.

Also funny, I was talking to one of my friends as it went to the shootout (ok, talking is a stretch. I was just saying "SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT" but whatever, it's communication), and look, the B's aren't really known for their prowess on the shootout (I keep typing that shoutout. Hilar!). And uh, hello? Kozlov, Afinegenov, (can't spell that to save my life), Kovalchuk? This was disaster waiting to happen. I told my girl that someone better make sure all the milk crates in Philips were tied down.

As Jack Edwards loves to say - Two U's, two K's and a big fat W.

I'll keep looking for more photo o'hilarity for you. Thrashers fans, you keep it funny. There may not be a lot of you, but I salute those of you that show up and make the game more entertaining.

Also of relevance to Thrashers fans, tickets for Casino Night are now available! The event will occur on 01/10/10. Someone please buy me a ticket so I can come mingle and meet all of you?

The ability to make a guy bleed pays $4.083m/yr

The stunningly fit, heavy-fisted, soft-handed, almost fleet-footed Milan Lucic, the new found cult hero of the working class fans of Boston Bruins everywhere, was finally rewarded today for his years of never-say-die attitude, and awarded a contract extension for 3 years at $12.25m.

Just a reminder to the naysayers, Jeremy Jacobs wouldn't pay $4m a year to someone who serves only as a pugilist. For proof, just ask PJ Stock.

Congrats, Looch. Keep it up, can't wait to see you wearing the Red and White come February.

Thrashers PSA: Say no to bad commercials

Is it too much of a stretch that I probably linked the team to the Ovie commercial? Go team making-fun-of-the-Caps!

Ovechkin is god damned hilarious

Round these parts, all the famous athletes (namely, every questionably famous Redskin, Raven, and Wizard), has done a commercial for Eastern Motors - where your job's your credit. This is the #1 most recognisable jingle in the DMV area, and now, it has a little Russian flava! This was shot yesterday, and I. Can not. Stop. Laughing. My ass off.

In comparison, here's one of the many ones the Redskins ( Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell, Chris Cooley and Antwaan Randle El) did:

You are welcome!

OMG you guys!

You guys! Kari skated yesterday in full gear! And played in net! And I have a PICTURE to PROVE IT! Super extra special thanks to the gorgeous and charming Lisa AKA Hockey Wench from The Thrashers 411 who took this with her phone!

And I'm not sure where this came from, someone actually emailed it to me with no attribution so if it's yours, sorry for not giving you credit:
You can usually tell how a goalie is doing by looking behind him. If you keep finding a puck in the net, he’s not having a good day. But if you were looking at the back of the net at Thrashers practice on Monday, you were looking in the wrong place. You needed to wait for Kari Lehtonen to remove his mask. The smile you saw told you everything you needed to know.
So clearly, this is like, the greatest week of my life right now! And if you had my life, you'd realise that's not quite the pathetic statement it comes off as. Also, I've been kind of thinking Kari'll head to Chicago between Friday and Wednesday, put in a few games, then be back in Blue, and all will be right with my world, and if you don't find the same excitement that I do in his return, you can fuck right off, because I do not care what you think and this is my blog, AKA Kari Central.

Also I have a bunch of photos from the past couple games but I haven't had time to resize them so I figure they'll just keep stacking up until I find some free time then I'll do a post with like 100 pictures or something. Sorry. Hope no one's sitting around waiting for them.

PS: How 'bout them Bruins, baby?

Brackets; best hockey commercial

I made this about eight years ago, and I know you can't do hockey brackets the way you do normal sport brackets b/c of the seeding blahblahblah, but if you're smart, you can figure this out. I'll be updating it as the playoffs go along, but if you want to play along at home, have at it!
The Thrash play the Bolts tonight. Um. You know what? Who cares who wins. It doesn't matter anymore. Let's just watch the hockey while we still can and enjoy it. I am curious about whether the SOG will remain under 40 though. For the other team, I mean. Not for the Thrashers. C'mon, who are you kidding? Hah.

Also, greatest hockey commercial ever. Period.

Kari's eventful night

Now look - I'm sure this comes as no surprise, but I totally support Kari's outburst(s) last night. And I can understand the cussing by accident - I do it all the time! (I'm sure you 're shocked.) How long have I been saying they are going to break him if they keep it up? This is not a situation where I want to be all, I told you so but seriously. You can only treat someone like shit for so long before they fight back. I think what Darren Eliot said was kind of... crap. If Kari's not to be demonstrative, and toe the company line, and keep being rah rah team, what would be the true catalyst for a change? No, really. What?

The quality is pure shit. I'm sorry. :( If the Thrashers actually used that nifty "Thrashers TV" feature on their website, you could see these in awesome ready-for-HD quality. Alas... (I will add a caveat that they might be there. But I highly doubt it. They weren't last night, and that section of the site is never updated).

Funniest hockey video you'll see today

Eric Nystrom strips down to his bottoms on ice during a charity auction. TSN ran this on a split screen, alongside Ned Braden's striptease from Slapshot, and move for move, Nystrom replicated it exactly. Who says hockey players can't dance? Video is SFW.

NHL Network commercials

If you don't have NHL Network, you are totally missing out - on these hilarious commercials! I think this guy might secretly be the Thrashers coach. Or DW is moonlighting as an actor.........

Cliches:

Our blueline is our last line of defence:

There are a lot more, but those are my favourite, and probably most applicable to our team.

Nice try, Nogoalov

One of my all-time favourite hockey commercials:

14 January 2008

Guess who's starting in net tomorrow night?

Since you're reading this here, you probably guessed "Kari." And then you probably said, really? But no, seriously! How awesome is that! His first career start against the Red Wings. Go KL go! I'm super psyched to see this match up, I have to remember to tape it.

In other news, apparently the goalies have been working on screening one another at practice lately. Not being a goalie coach, I can't really tell you why, but um. Here.

Thanks to tackkjr for these videos, btw!

In this next one, which isn't nearly as funny, Moose is screening Kari.

And while we're on they subject of Moose.... Rex Jr takes some potshots on our favourite backup:

S'all I really got today. Game day preview tomorrow. That should be a blast to research.... [sarcasm]

Oh Soupy. Way to up the dignity factor.

I love bad athlete commercials.
